Hello! We will be arriving in Milan around 6:30pm on May 4. Because I wanted the whole day in Lake Como on May 5, we have reservations for that night at the Hotel Royal Victoria, where we'll start the Best if Italy in 17 days on May 5 at 5pm. From reading the tour guide and Rick Steves' book, it looks like they recommend taking the train or taxi from MXP to the central trail station, and then the train to Lake Como. I think we'll be fairly tired after long flights, so I was hoping to get a car service or Uber or somesuch to get us there more quickly. Anyone have any suggestions?
You can just google “car service Malpensa to Varenna” to find some companies.
This one quotes € 185-200+ on that evening:
And this one quotes 290€
We used a UK company named Find Transfers to book a private driver in Italy last September. You might try them for comparison. They put your request to local taxi companies, and the companies send price quotes to you. You can accept or refuse any of them.
great, thanks! I'll give findtransfers.com a try!
Due to the scheduled arrival time of your flight you would barely make the last train departing from Milan airport (MXP) around 8 PM and arriving in Varenna just before 11 PM. That itinerary is an inconvenient train and bus transfer. Had your arrival been earlier then you would be able to enjoy the fast and inexpensive train options which I used several months ago. The private transfer option seems to be the best.
We are using “Milanobycar” in two weeks to go from MPX to Bellagio. Mercedes E class car, €195 then back to Milano Centrale a couple days later for roughly the same. Very responsive.
When we did this before Covid, we contacted the Hotel Victoria and they recommended a car service that was a local.
Those are good suggestions—especially asking the hotel for a recommendation. It looks like it is going to cost around 200 € no matter what you choose.
thanks for all the suggestions! I called Hotel Royal Victoria and they will arrange an airport transfer for us....
