Ennis

Is there enough to see and do in Ennis for two days prior starting RS tour? Suggestions. Will arrive early Fri AM and tour begins later on Sunday.

We were there in 1999. We saw an old abbey, cliffs of moher, went to Bunratty folk park, and walked around town. I'm guessing you'll see cliffs on the tour. So maybe a day trip that isn't covered by the Tour.

I am just chiming in because I am going to do this tour next year and want to save this thread.

Thanks

I have not been there since 1994, I believe it would be a good place to hear some good Irish Music. There is also some beautiful scenery around there.

If you'll have a car, and if the weather cooperates, I'd suggest a leisurely scenic drive down the coast from Doolin...to Kilkee and Kilrush, each of which we enjoyed very much. Both are pretty little villages with some terrific pubs and nice places for lunch. Just west of the beach at Kilkee is a very pleasant cliff walk - not exactly the Cliffs of Moher but nice in its own right with some dramatic seascapes and great photo ops...and nice places for a picnic lunch if you're so inclined. Believe there's a monument at the beginning of the coastal walk in memory of the actor Richard Harris who, although born in Limerick, apparently had a great affection for Kilkee and the local area from his early days as a local rugby player.

We are also starting our RS Tour from Ennis. We explored several ideas regarding what to do prior to the tour. There is a bus from Ennis which goes to Bunratty. It isn't that far from Ennis (27km), so you might consider taking a taxi. In Bunratty there is the Bunratty Castle and Folk Park which is a nice place to spend an afternoon. Near the Castle is a shopping area which has a restaurant/cafeteria where you can get lunch or tea.

One poster on the Ireland site said they went from Ennis to Galway. I think they took the bus.
I seem to remember reading about a few day tours from Ennis. Perhaps you could contact someone at the hotel where you are staying to ask about information on any available tours from Ennis.
