Eiffel Tower - can we take the stairs with a lift ticket?

My son (age 11) and I really want to go to the top floor of the Eiffel Tower at dusk/night. We also want to take the stairs to the second floor; however, the only way to purchase such a ticket is the day of at the Tower. I want to guarantee our entry and I am wondering if we can buy the lift access ticket to the top, but then skip the lift to the second floor and take the stairs. I see tours that offer this, but I don't want to pay those prices.

Merci!

(p.s. is it safe to assume we can get a cab back to our lodging at night from the Tower?)

I would be surprised if there were no taxis by the Tower at closing time

Ticket with access stairs 2nd floor +lift top floor : This ticket grants access to the top of the Tower via the stairs up to the second floor, and then in a lift. On sale at the Tower only.

The ticket you want must be bought at the Tower, but it does not state ( unless I missed it somewhere else) that it has to be bought the day of the visit.

Hopefully someone can provide a definitive answer.
