Eastern France - Where to explore after Aix-En-Provence

We just booked this trip for 2019 and are excited to be dreamy about all that's to come. We want to stay a few days after our tour ends and are wondering if just staying put in Aix would be good (we're only there one night on the tour) or are there other spots nearby, someone might recommend? (Plus tips on best way to get there would be good!). Would it be worth it to travel over to Nice? The options are endless. From what I know about my past tour experience, once it's over, I'm ready to relax and slow things down a bit...so take that into consideration. We'd love input from anyone who's done this tour and has any tips! Thanks.

Hi Katy,

How many days would you have after the tour ends, and from where are you returning home?

That information might help folks provide better targeted suggestions.

We are thinking of staying an additional 3 days but that can be flexible. The same for where we return home from. We're hoping to dream up a plan and then our air travel can be booked around that.

You are only visiting Aix in Provence and there are so many lovely towns and villages to explore. Small cities of Avignon and Arles too. Stay in St-Remy, rent a car and explore.
Or visit Nice and stay in the city and/or explore by bus/train Antibes, St- Paul de Venice, Cap Ferrat, etc. we spent two weeks in Nice and were busy every day. Nice has an airport too.

I am a big fan of Van Gough. Our tour ended in Marseille. It was an easy train trip to Arles. It was a lovely town with good food. We managed to hit a free museum day and not crowded. Also there was some type of fiesta going on. It was a lovely couple days. Going home we took the train part way, then an easy transfer to a shuttle to the Marseille airport. You probably can’t go wrong, no matter what you choose.

You are going to love this tour! It was my first RS tour, and like you wondered what to do for a few days to savor the trip. In 2014 the tour ended in Marseille. I took a train to Lyon for 3 nights and explored the city, it's world class restaurants, and reflected on an amazing trip and country. I caught the train (2 hours) back to CDG airport in the morning and flew home in the early afternoon. I stayed in the Presqu'ile (peninsula) between the Sabine and Rhone rivers easily accessible via metro from the train. I had the best meal of my life on the last night in Lyon. A wonderful Lyonnaise salad, porchetta, and profiteroles for desert.

lonmanof3, I love the idea of spending that next few days in Lyon. We're at the pondering stage of what to do when the tour ends, and which airport we should fly home from. Hmmm. Thanks for the idea.
