I'm considering the Eastern France tour in the spring. My biggest concern is the amount of snow still on the mountain at Chamonix and whether you would be able to hike in the area. Has anyone been in May? If so, what was the weather like? Were you there early or late? I would appreciate any information .
Chamonix can be iffy even in July as we were there then and for 2 days could not hike or take gondaloas anywhere. So plan it with an alternate. It is a beautiful area regardless.
Janet,
My daughter & I visited Chamonix in late May this year & there was still snow on the mountains, so the trails were closed. We did, however, go up to the Aiguille du Midi & enjoyed the spectacular views of Mont Blanc & surrounding mountains. We also took the train up to see the Mer de Glace.
The town of Chamonix is very small but quite charming.
It's difficult to know what the weather will be like next year though.
