Definition of activity level on a RS tour?

I was looking at the Best of Germany tour for 2017. The day the tour goes to Neuschwanstein the activity was defined as light. Now I've been to Neuschwanstein 4 times and walked up that hill 4 times. All in all it's not too bad a climb but it's a pretty big hill none the less. Perhaps the rest of the day the walking is minimal so the whole day put together can be considered light? What's considered strenuous?

You can take the trolley up.. that would make it a light day.

On the best of Europe 21 days the day to Neuschwanstein day is noted as strenuous. So are the days in Amsterdam and Rome. I did the tour this past spring and thought the walk up to be strenuous but doable for those who can walk that far uphill. The younger set blew by us!
To me strenuous would be a considerable distance to walk up hills and miles of walking in Rome and Amsterdam, especially if it is very hot!

I think it's probably a typo calling that a light day, considering the ratings they are giving to the other days.

Interesting, I see that day is marked strenuous on the GAS 2016 tour as well. When I did the 21BOE the guide paid for the trolley to the top altho some opted to walk.

I review the entire day and then consider if it's light or strenuous versus just looking at one specific activity within the day: So how long you are actually on your feet walking, climbing, standing still for tour guides when they speak, walking up and down stairs, and handling your luggage is how I think they define each day.

Hi everyone. I wondered too if it was a typo but wasn't sure. The last time I was there it was winter with quite a bit of freshly fallen snow. Walking down was tricky. My boots had poor traction so by the time I got to the bottom of the hill my calf muscles were protesting. Such a pretty area. I hope to get back there someday and hike the region.

I think we've used different logic at different times and do need to revisit these conflicting descrpitions. The tour inside the palace includes over 100 stair steps. But guides will now always offer the shuttle bus option to reach the top of the hill.

The eleven day Sicily tour has a side comment that says that this is the most strenuous of RS tours and most of the days are rate as such. Yet when checking the itinerary only two days are labeled as strenuous. I have taken 14 RS tours and do not let RS daily ratings influence my choice of tours. As a Senior, I have chosen to opt out of only a couple of activities in all of those tours due to their physical demands.

Thank you Laura,

The website defines RS tours as very active and I feel like the website encourages only those physically fit to join a tour. It's a little discriminatory but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The last tour I was on a woman spent about 90% of the tour sitting on the bus because she could not physically handle the demands of the tour. I was very sad for her. But your website also routinely encourages people to call with questions or concerns about any tour.

Hi Charlie,

I noticed that too. Looked like the distance held the most amount of weight in defining activity level for the day. Fourteen RS tours is very impressive. Are you planning a RS tour for next year?
