Day Trip from Galway

We will be in Galway Ireland for 4 days and wanted to take a day trip (or 2) from Galway as our base....the Aran Islands look lovely - Connemara is mentioned in some books - if you've taken a day trip from Galway, we would love your input.
Train / or bus ride, maybe max, 2 hours one way away.

thanks.

The Aran Islands Ferry Company has a pickup point right in Galway. Costs a few Euros but it's very convenient if you'll be without a car. Can google them for the details. Pick a day when the weather forecast cooperates - it's a much more pleasant excursion on a sunny day.
There are plenty of day trips and tours from Galway that will take you down to the Cliffs, the Burren, and probably much of the Connemara Loop Drive...to include the pretty little town of Clifden, the National Park, Kylemore Abbey, etc. Can check the Trip Advisor "Things to Do" pulldown menu for Galway to see what's on offer.

I did a day trip to Kylemore Abbey from Galway and loved it. I had a car, so I'm not sure what the public transport options are. The drive through Connemara was gorgeous, my favorite drive of the trip (and we drove a good loop of Ireland overall). I'm a person that really enjoys historic buildings and Victorian gardens, so Kylemore was my kind of thing. You can also just wander some trails there, I believe. It's a beautiful setting. They also have a little cafeteria where you could get a decent lunch and a glass of wine if you wanted.
