Day tour/guide Istanbul?

Please don’t be upset if it’s somewhere in the archives…

Also I don’t think there are any day tours from RS. I’ve done some day tours in other countries w/RS but I didn’t see any on the website.

I also use Get your Guide when traveling but I thought I’d ask the professional travelers 1st if they have any recommendations. My hotel also offers one, but I never know if that’s the route I should take.

Thanks

We worked Serhat Engul last November. We found his website -- https://istanbulclues.com -- helpful when we were planning our trip, and so we hired him for a day and a half. He was excellent, and I would work with him again.

The company that arranges the RS tours is also very good. I can't remember the name right now.

We had a good experience in May with IstanbulTourStudio.com. You can negotiate the upfront deposit (we did). Our guide gave us great historical perspective on what we were viewing and gave us options on the spot- we did not have to follow some “track” where one is force-marched thru a preordained itinerary.

@Nova - I found the post under Rick Steves Tours.

One other thing about Serhat Engul. He was very flexible about our schedule. We scheduled one day at Sultanahmet and a half day in Fener/Balat. My friend's knee was bothering her before we got to the end of the Sultanahmet day, and so we ended the Sultanahmet tour early and finished it the next day, before the Fener/Balat tour.

SRM Travel may be the company that Marie was thinking of. Their tour guides lead the Rick Steves tours and their founders are the authors of the Rick Steves Best of Istanbul guidebook.

They offer food tours and set walking tours in Istanbul, private tours with specific focus, and regional tours. They will customize tours to your suggestions. When I emailed them, they provided a description of a dozen or more half day and full day tour itineraries.
