Cycling in Trier

I will be arriving a day early in Trier for the GAS tour end of September. I am interested in renting a bike and doing a little cycling along the Mosel river. Has anyone done that?

Thanks Sam. How far is it to Bernkastel-Kues? Can I rent a bike in Trier? Have you done this and would you recommend it? From what I have read it sounds like a pleasant way to spend a day in that area.

I have not done this particular route, but they are very nice bike trails, although not perfectly paved. Don't get an expensive road bike, but an-all purpose 7-speed with wider tires. There should plenty of places to rent a bike for a day in Trier. You don't have to go all the way to Bernkastel-Kues, which is about 40 miles. As you can see from the map, there are many intermediate points where you can get the return bus.

Another (very short) ride is up by the Imperial Roman baths, to the Amphitheatre (watch the traffic crossing the road, use the underpass or stick your courage to the sticking spot and use the roundabout) and then up the Petrisberg (steep) through the vineyard, and up to the university for a great view.
