I am going on the Best of London city tour next month. A friend is currently in London and she has posted video of a bus Christmas Light tour. Has anyone done this tour? It wasn’t that pricey so I have purchased a ticket.
The lights mainly focus on Oxford Street and Regent Street, so just sit upstairs on a regular bus such as the 94 or 159. The best lights are usually Carnaby Street, which is pedestrianised and Burlington Arcade plus the other arcades off Old Bond Street.
Other countries do Christmas better than the U.K. and London.
Jennifer, we much preferred Christmas in London to Christmas in NY. What countries were you talking about?
Kew Gardens has a spectacular light installation and program every year. https://www.kew.org/kew-gardens/whats-on/christmas
If the link appeals, you will need to book in advance. Easy access by tube.
Christmas lights in Germany, parts of Spain and Budapest are all more interesting than London IMO.
Barbara, thanks for that Kew Gardens link to the lights. I looked for it recently and didn't come up with it so I appreciate your posting!
Any comments on the decorations at Hyde Park?
Hyde Park has Winter Wonderland. You can find a free App with all the info.
I did the Kew Christmasights on Friday night, and it is absolutely amazing, but has is ticket only and has sold out.
Great tips from some of you indeed! Our family is going to spend the Christmas in London this year. Thank you!
P.S. Christmas Day in London gonna be fun ... no traffic, like a ghost town. (Or it’s just an rumor?)
no rumour
since several locals and others have discussed this a lot on the England Forum (this is a strange place to discuss London's Christmas since it is the Rick Steves Tours Forum) and all pretty much say the same thing, why do you think it would be a rumour?
Nigel,
The OP posted her question on the Rick Steves Tours forum because she is going on the Rick Steves Best of London tour in December. Hence the reason for her question about the Christmas Lights tour in London.
"I did the Kew Christmasights on Friday night, and it is absolutely amazing, but has is ticket only and has sold out."
Caro, may I ask how far ahead you bought your ticket? Planning for next year or the year after.....!!!
I think we booked in Oct for friday night just gone and by then Sat and Sun had already sold out
Thanks Caro! Just signed up for the newsletter for notifications for next year.
editing to add for the OP: I follow this person's blog for interesting things to do in London. I've no stake with her other than having followed some of her self-guided walks and finding them interesting. ANYWAY, here is a link to her blog post from today listing her take on Christmas Markets in London. I know they are not traditional but you might have fun if you run on to them!
Thank you Pam!
