I will be visiting Crete in May 2025 dividing my time between Chania and Heraklion and I will have a car. I plan on driving along the northern coast for a scenic drive to get from one to the other. My dilemma is I'm not sure which direction to go, East or West. I would love to hear your driving experiences for suggestions.

Since much of the road runs along the coast I’d opt for the Heraklion/Chania option, particularly the area along Souda Bay from Kalives into Chania where it climbs a hill overlooking the Bay. Rethymno old town is a nice half-way break for lunch and the Venetian Fortress there is interesting.
