Is anyone arriving in Venice on 3/1/18 that might want to share a water taxi from the airport to the hotel in Venice?
I hope that someone in your group responds and is willing to share a taxi... depending on traffic and weather it could be a great time saver. Otherwise, the Vaporetto option is just fine. It's a sizable boat and very efficiently run.
In both cases, just be mentally prepared for the ride. Coming off a long-haul flight, it can be a bit overwhelming. This is especially true if you are not used to boat transportation, its a warm windy day, and the lagoon is full of traffic. Don't underestimate RS recommendation to pack light. I did this tour with a carry-on backpack, and was very thankful once I had to start navigating the town.
I know I have strayed off your topic, but will leave you with one last tip. Figure out where the boat will drop you off, then use google maps street view feature to virtually walk from your boat dock to your hotel. In my case, I had to walk through a meter-wide street that more resembled someone's back alley. I never would have been able to find the hotel (without assistance) had I not done the virtual walk through.
Ummm... unless things have changed in the last few weeks, the VAPORETTO does not go to and from Marco Polo airport and the heart of Venice. The ALILAGUNA does. Different companies, different boats. You can google the alilaguna schedule and route map. You'll likely want a blue line or orange line alilaguna boat...Please correct me if I'm wrong!
The Water Taxi does. The Vaporettos are public trans.
Thank you, franzend. That's why I'm kind of thinking water taxi. It can leave us about a half block from our hotel.
You can book a shared water taxi service. It is around €27 per person. You may have to wait a bit for your fellow passengers to arrive, or they may have to wait for you. But it is a nice price.
You might want to post this in the Transportatin or Italy forum and mention a shared water taxi in Venice in the title.
But you are counting on many of your fellow tour participants being on this Forum - past performance shows otherwise unfortunately - and arriving at the airport at the same time and staying the night before at the tour hotel...
You may be lucky but if you're not lucky it may be worth having a plan "B".
