I am arriving early for this tour (2 May) in Palermo (as recommended by the Tour Notes!), staying at the tour hotel. I plan to visit sites in Palermo not covered by the tour, plus a day trip to Cefalu. I would appreciate meeting up with any other early-arrival tour members to sightsee together. You may also meet them at breakfast or a predinner drink on the rooftop. Have fun

Thank you - I am really looking forward to it. Perhaps I should ostentatiously carry my Rick Steves day bag when I go to breakfast or drinks! I shall ask at the hotel reception anyway, but I thought it could be nice to communicate about plans beforehand, as I have done on another tour with a different company. I asked RS directly about making contact but they seem to have some theory that officially enabling members to meet before the tour could affect the group dynamic with some later arrivals feeling left out (???) They say they may reconsider this, which seems reasonable in this very connected world. I shall also post again just before the trip, as these posts rapidly disappear down the online thread.

Instead of your bag, possibly carry at least the cover of a RS guidebook? (Just thinking out loud here.)
When we were there in November (also arriving a couple of days early), there was another RS tour group there that was ahead of ours time wise. So depending on the itineraries in May, there could be another tour group there which started ahead of yours.
