For those who have taken this tour, how many days in advance would you recommend arriving and what did you do on those extra days? We always like to arrive the day ahead of a tour start just in case there are any travel hiccups but would add on more if it is worthwhile.

I'd want much more time in Stockholm than the tour allows, which is one full day and bits of two others. Take a look at Rick's top sightseeing trips for that city: https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/sweden/stockholm. (Click on At a Glance.) There are a lot of other art museums in the city, including MUNCH, that don't make his list, and Stockholm is an especially pretty city, stretched out over many islands. It's great just to walk around. In addition, many visitors like to take a trip out to the Stockholm Archipelago. The university town of Uppsala is another popular side trip.

We took this tour in May 2022 and arrived 3 days early in Stockholm. One day we took a train to Uppsala and enjoyed our time there, a lovely university town with a relaxing vibe. Another day we walked all over and looked for different food halls we had read about, also went to Skansen, Gamla Stan, even the ABBA museum which turned out to be a hoot. You can take boat rides out to the various islands but my friends weren’t interested in that. The point is, there’s so much to do. Rick’s guidebook will give you ideas.

We did this tour last summer and loved it!
We flew into Helsinki for three nights and then made our way over to Stockholm for an additional two nights prior to the tour. In Stockholm, we went to Drottningholm Slot, booked time at Centralbadet, saw the Royal Armory (wow!), and ate at Meatballs for the People (reservations recommended). In between all that, we walked around and enjoyed the very beautiful city!
Buy the train tickets from the airport to the city center ahead of time and save approx. 50%. The train is easy to find at the airport and very convenient.
