Best of Paris/Best of Rome Tour Hotels

A friend of mine wants to go to Europe--she has never been--and is afraid to go on her own. She has talked about going to Paris or Rome. I'm trying to get her to take either the RS Best of Paris in 7 days or the Best or Rome in 7 days tours.

For those of you who have taken these specific tours, not the other France or Italy tours, would you please tell me which hotels you stayed in. When I have that I can show her what she can expect even though she won't know her exact hotel until she signs up.

I realize hotels change. I am just trying to compile a list of hotels used on the Best of Paris and Best of Italy tours ONLY. She may wind up staying in none of these, I know, but at least it will give her an idea of the EXACT hotels that have been used on these tours

Frank as you realize the hotels do change , I've been in Paris on a RS tour and so has my friend ( we were on seperate tours ) and we both stayed in different hotels . So I don't think you need a tour specific hotel response .

When we were in Paris we stayed at the Hotel Le Royal (in the 14 th , very nice ) andnin Rome we stayed Hotel Selene ( also nice and convenient location ) , however as I said RS uses different hotels in same cities and changes them around from year to year too sometimes.

The quality of RS is always the same , clean , well located hotels , not big modern chain hotels however ! We did a 14 day Europe tour with RS and we were happy with all the hotels . Some were family run , all had elevators but one , and all had character ! No complaints . However if you friend is used to luxury hotels with room service and a bell boy she may not like the RS choices .

I stayed in the Hotel Le M in the Montparnasse area for my Best of Paris tour in 2014. This last May I was staying on my own at Hotel Londres Eiffel and there was a Best of Paris tour staying there at the same time.

I took the Best of Paris RS trip one year when my hubby couldn't get away to travel. I had been to Paris previously, but the tour price in August that year plus my discount from traveling with RS on other tours made the RS tour a great option along with all of the great benefits! Our group stayed at the Londres Eiffel hotel near the Eiffel Tower. If she's hesitant to travel on her own, the Paris itinerary is a good option, and the city of Paris specifically is an excellent starting location since the city is so beautiful, it's so easy to walk or metro anywhere in the central portion of Paris, and there are so many wonderful sites & parks for her interests. There were several people in our group who were newbies to Europe, probably because of the reasons mentioned.

Hi Frank - how are you? I did the 7 Day Best of Rome tour last March and we stayed at the Hotel Lancelot, located about three blocks from the Roman Colosseum. It is an excellent family run Hotel that began on the fourth floor of the building in 1959 and expanded over the years to the entire building. Mrs. Khan, the owner, is originally from the US and moved there with her husband. Her daughter helps with the operation of the hotel now and her son is a gourmet French Chef who prepares wonder meals each evening. If you find yourself eating dinner there you will undoubtedly share a table with Mrs. Khan and her son. She has been everywhere and has wonderful stories of her adventures. She found out I was from Anchorage and said to me "I was in Anchorage several years ago" and I was astonished. Really? "Yes, I was visiting a sister that moved there back in the 60's!"

I highly recommend them.

Frank,
I took the Best of Rome in 7 Days tour this past spring in late March. We stayed at the Lancelot Hotel which is a few blocks from the Colosseum. It is a family-owned and run hotel with fresh flowers at the check-in counter, living room area and the dining room. There is a sort of bar area with a reading nook with a library and a lovely outdoor patio. The rooms are nice with smallish bathrooms as per the usual for Europe but the location and the people are wonderful. You feel like you are staying in someone's home. The food is good at breakfast everyday and they have a delicious menu for dinner if you want to reserve to eat there and not go out.

There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance serving great food at reasonable prices. After dinner, we would walk the 3 or 4 blocks to see the Colosseum lit up after dark - magical!
As you can tell, I liked the Lancelot Hotel. My point is that RS uses a variety of nice hotels.
The Rome tour was amazing, too!

Hi Frank.

I am taking my second Best of Paris tour this Christmas. Both times we are at the Hotel de Londres Eiffel in the 7th. It is a wonderful tour.

About 12 years ago, before we knew about Rick Steves, hubby and I went to Italy. I booked all of the hotels and such. We stayed at Hotel Lancelot and loved it. Mrs. Kahn, the owner and her daughter were delightful and very helpful with a restaurant recommendation and such. Restaurant recommendation turned out great and it's our favorite it Rome!

Since then we have taken 7 RS tours, the last of which was October, 2016. It was Rome in 7 days. We wanted to see Rome in more depth and with local guides. Great trip. The surprise was that Hotel Lancelot was the trip hotel! We were both delighted. Love the area, went back to the recommended restaurant, and was very pleased with the hotel and the neighborhood.

I can't guarantee that this will be the hotel for your Best of Rome tour, but if it's not and it's comparable I'm sure it will be fine.

Have a Great Trip!
Mimi

Frank,
Please let us know which tour your friend decides to take. I loved the Rome tour and someday may take the 7 Days in Paris tour around Christmas time even though I've been to Paris on my own. In fact, I'm planning a trip to Paris for April 2018.
Hope to hear from you. :)
