Best of Paris, Sept 4

My tour starts in 22 days and I leave in 19 days! I'm so excited!! This will be my first major solo trip (and first Rick Steves' tour), I've only taken little weekend getaways by myself until now.

Who else is on this tour with me? I'm looking forward to meeting my tour group.

I've found that on many of my RS tours only a few members had ever heard of the forums!!

In any event, you will have a terrific time on this tour. I did it solo in 2014 and had so much fun. It made feel so comfortable in Paris! I'm leaving Friday for 5 nights on my own and a lot of the comfort level for doing this is because of what I learned on the tour.

You'll have your tour guide now which is always fun to know and I'm glad you are going a few days ahead of time Where is your hotel?

Congratz Rosemary - this tour looks like you are in for a great time in Paris! I'm not on your tour but was in Paris last fall and loved it. I hope you will come back here on the forum and write a review of your adventure. Have a blast!

Hi Rosemary, I'm not on your tour but this was the first RS tour I did in 2007. I traveled solo and had a wonderful time. Paris is a fantastic city and you will see all the highlights. I loved the museums and all the sites included on this tour. Great food, great group of people. Our tour guide was wonderful and helped us figure out what to do in our (limited) free time.

The Eiffel Tower is not included on the tour so you might want to do that one afternoon or evening. A (1 hour) Seine boat ride is also a very nice idea.

I've found that the city tours attract more single people so you will be in good company. Hope you have a great time!

Hi Rosemary,
My Paris City tour starts Sunday Aug 28, so I will there the week before you.

My first trip to Europe was the Rome City tour with RS in 2007 --it was wonderful.

Hope you enjoy your time in Paris!

Rosemary,

Best of Paris was the first Rick Steves' tour my wife and I ever took and it was WONDERFUL! We learned many interesting things about the City of Lights including the fact that while the Parisians are really cute, you shouldn't attempt to feed them because they become acclimated to people; more than 25 people call Paris home (the rest are tourists) and Paris features the oldest functioning public clock in Europe, which is ironic because no one in Paris seems to give a crap what time it is.

I hope you see and learn many fascinating things on your Paris tour as well!

I'm glad to hear such positive experiences about the tours and Paris itself. I can't wait to get there and experience it all for myself!

Have a great time on your trip. We did this tour (our first) last June and loved everything about it. The guides were all wonderful, especially our main tour guide Rebecca. We were so pleased with this experience that we signed up for the Best of Venice, Florence and Rome tour next May. And we'd be thrilled to go back to Paris someday. One thing the tour did was give us the confidence to hop on the Metro and travel all over the city by ourselves. It's a wonderful place. Enjoy!

Thanks stoutfella! It's been great hearing that others have had such good experiences with this tour. I leave this afternoon and I can't believe how quickly departure day has come! I'm a little nervous about my first couple of days there before I meet up with the tour group, but I'm hoping that if I just jump right in that will go away. Paris here I come!

Rosemary,
I went on the Paris and Heart of France tour in 2014 and arrived 3 days early. I stayed at the tour hotel and explored Paris on my own, it was magical! I met several couples in the breakfast room of the hotel who also had arrived early so I felt like I already knew some people at our introductory meeting on tour day. I felt being in Paris was a dream come true and I was not afraid being on my own. I found people were very helpful when I needed to ask navigation questions. Occasionally someone would approach me on the street when I was pondering my map (i.e. looking lost) and ask if they could help me. For me, a trip of a lifetime!
I hope you will write a trip report and let us know how you fared. I think you will love it!
