Best of Paris or Ireland in 14 Days tour?

As per usual, I have such difficulty deciding which Rick Steves tour to take next. I'm deciding between Ireland in 14 Days and Best of Paris. I've been on 11 RS Tours to date (see below) and would love my fellow travelers' thoughts on which one I should take next.... especially from folks who've taken both.

From most to least recent, I've done England in 14 Days, Village Italy, Scandinavia, South England, Portugal, Adriatic, Greece, Turkey, Sicily, Spain My Way, and GAS My Way (now called Alpine My Way, I think).

Between Paris and Ireland, which tour might I find more/less different, exhilarating, eye-opening, or whatever—based on your own experiences with the tour(s). In other words, don't worry about what my travel preferences are. I'd love to hear what you think/thought about them.

I think your request is a bit hard to fill. What you want from your trip is what really matters and you are telling us to ignore the most important information needed in making decisions.
Do you want city intensive or combo city/countryside?
Which of your previous tours were your favorites and why?
What appeals to you most about Paris?
What appeals to you most about Ireland?

I am open to anything!

But am particularly interested in the specific things you all liked about these two tours. I'd rather not base my choice on what I currently like or prefer, as perhaps I have yet to discover new preferences and likes through my next tour. :-)

I’ve been on both. I enjoyed both. The two tours are completely different in some ways as there are no hours on a bus and constant repacking on the Paris tour. But they both follow the same type of routine with local guides, whisper systems and a few group dinners. Not quite sure what you’re looking for especially having stated you’ve been on a number of the tours. Paris is Paris with churches, wine, artwork and its history. Ireland is green with friendly people, spectacular scenery, good beer and it’s own history.

Did Paris quite a few years ago and did the shorter best of Ireland last year. While liked both tours nothing for me beats Paris. Paris is Paris & everyone who can should go there at least once.

I did the Best of Ireland tour this past April, it was one of the best RS tours I've been on, and I'm about to take my 10th. I'm originally from England, so it certainly filled me with some of what I miss about home but it was also very different as it was Ireland. I've been to Paris several times, once with RS although not the 7 day tour. Both countries are completely different and both enjoyable in their own way. If you have already been on the South England and 14 day England you might want to pick Paris this time as you might feel there are similarities. Paris is totally different than England and Ireland and would certainly give you a different experience and one that you would most likely enjoy.

We loved the 14 day RS Ireland. We never could have seen what we’ve seen on our own because there’s no easy way to see so much without renting a car, which we won’t do in Ireland.

While I assume the Paris tour is fantastic, we’ve been many times on our own. It’s an easy trip to do on your own. I love Paris more each time I visit!

I've done both although a number of years ago (2014). As Margie points out they are different in that the Paris tour has no bus hours and no packing and unpacking.

I am totally NOT a city gal but doing the Best of Paris tour taught me "HOW" manage independently in Paris. I had been to Paris for the 1st time back in 1973. Then again another few times in the 1970's but it never really caught me. In retrospect I just didn't know how to manage Paris and the culture and TBH, Parisians have become more welcoming to tourists than 50 years ago.

I did the Best of Paris on the back of the 21 Day Best of Europe which ends in Paris. I've never lived in a location where there was public transit and the guide taught me a LOT. While we did use the Metro on the day and a half I was on the BOE tour, we went everywhere via Metro on Best of Paris so I really upped my skill level on that mode of travel. The downside to the Best of Paris is that I discovered I LOVE PARIS and can't stay away, hahaha!!! BTW, I also spent another week in Paris after the Best of Paris and that really helped me settle in.

I did the Best of Ireland in the same year but earlier in the season than Paris. I know everyone loves Ireland and I'm glad I went but it did not capture me like Paris did.

At this point I've done 12 RS tours and I'm pretty much done with the "2 nights, move, 2 nights, move" travel model. That may still appeal to you so if it does, don't let me dissuade you! It seems you have an interest in both areas so really, you can't go wrong!

I absolutely loved my time in Paris with my daughter. We spent 5 nights on our own before our 7 day best of Paris. Yes it was more expensive than doing it all on our own but it definitely added to our experience. I have a lot more confidence in planning my own European trips now and even planned 11 nights in France after this tour (we visited Paris in April this year and this Oct I went to France with my husband). But I guess it just really depends. Ireland sounds really exciting, too.

I agree with KD: Ireland in 14 Days. We took that tour several years ago and it was a true other worldly experience. So green! So many sheep! We loved the city portion in Dublin, but the history, the little towns and the countryside, and the people, were the wow features for us. Also, Ireland is a challenge to see well if you don't enjoy driving on the left side, and on small windy roads. Whereas Paris, which I also love, is easy to do on your own.

I took the Ireland tour in May and thought it was a great trip. It is a challenge to get to small towns in Ireland by public transportation so that is why I chose to take the tour. I think my favorite experience was launching the Harris Hawk at the School of Falconry, but there are so many interesting places and lots of beautiful scenery. Watch the “Derry Girls” on Netflix and read “Say Nothing” to learn a little bit about the troubles for your time in Northern Ireland.

I have never taken the RS Paris tour. Paris is so easy to visit independenly that I have never felt any need to book a tour.

What a fantastic set of responses! Thank you for taking the time to provide all your insights that will certainly facilitate my decision making. I'm not quite there yet, but will provide an update as soon as I make up my mind.
