Best of Italy; dates for best weather?

As this tour in 2025 starts in Venice, goes north and then circles south through Florence and Tuscany, to end in Rome, I’m trying to figure out the best time to go. May in the north, especially the Dolomites, seems too early. But June might already be hot and sticky in Florence and Rome. Same for September. I’m also worried about mosquitoes, since I’m a mosquito magnet. I don’t mind weather into the 80s, but CANNOT deal with humidity. Your thoughts on the best time to go on this tour?

As a general rule, the best time to go to Italy is from late March into April and from mid October into November. The lows will be in the high 40s / low 50s and the highs in the mid 60s. You can walk all day long without sweating.

We took this tour starting in the middle of May and other than a brief snow shower in the Dolomites that didn’t impact any hiking, the weather was great.

Hello,
I have travelled to Italy many times in both May and Nov/December and think both are great!

I was on this tour in mid-October, 2016, we had mild weather. However, the only exception was Venice with an Acqua Alta event, with lots of rain for both days.

There is no “perfect” time to travel. My first trip to Italy was in May 2019, South of Italy tour. It was a 20 year record cold streak. Even the locals were complaining. Coming from Arizona, I was so cold. I packed for spring and got winter. But the trip was great; roll with the punches.
You can research weather here but it’s history and climate changes do not predict the future.

I agree with Horsewoofie...there is no perfect time.

I've been in May (2013 for the Heart of Italy - Rome, Volterra, CT and Florence) and it was an OK temp for me - I am not heat tolerant.

I went the 2nd half of Oct 2014 for Village Italy and we ran in to lots of rain at the very end but otherwise quite pleasant.

I did the Best of Italy in early Oct 2022 when it started in Varenna. The towns in the north were good weather-wise but by the time we got to Rome mid-month it was still hot and in the 80's so uncomfortable for me but the hotel had AC so it was OK to sleep.

Honestly, I think it's a cr*p-shoot on weather these days. Places are warmer, rainier, drier, colder than they've traditionally been.
