Hi my husband and I are going to be doing this tour and we are also looking to book a private tour through areas that Rick Steves guides don't cover. There's a morning guided walk on day 16 through various neighborhoods in Rome. Does anyone who's taken this tour know if on day 16, you walk through the Trastevere neighborhood and also through the Jewish ghetto? Grazie!
I did this tour last year. It looks like they made a change to the itinerary because on our 2nd day in Rome we visited Vatican City in the morning (we had a local guide who have us a talk as we waited in line to get in), we visited St. Peter's Basilica on our own, and then had free time until dinner. (Many people took the opportunity to visit the Vatican Museums afterwards with pre-booked tickets.) I think it's nicer to have a guided walk through Rome and I'm glad they made this change! But unfortunately, most of us won't be able to answer this question. I'm curious to learn where you go, though! I imagine it may differ by tour.
We had a guide on the South Italy tour who took us through the Jewish Ghetto and it was great! Trastevere is neat, too. Rick has a guided walk through this neighborhood in his book.
The Jewish ghetto is such a small neighborhood, really only a couple of blocks, that if you have Rick's book you can easily see everything without a guide. There is also a museum, and of course the synagogue, but I wouldn't bother with a private guide. Of course if it's included in the tour, that's great.

I think they made this change because of the Jubilee and the tour will probably go back to the Vatican next year. We must visit the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's on our own this year.

Thanks for that tip. I also checked his audio app and he has a 30 minute guided tour for the Jewish Ghetto available on it.
We just got home from the RS Sicily tour. My husband and I spent our last night in Rome, staying at the Smeraldo Hotel, and a RS Best of Italy tour group was there at the time, on day 16. I took a photo of the sheet that was posted on the hotel counter. It said the group would be meeting at 8:45 for a 2.5 hour walking tour, church attire required, then the afternoon would be free, and the free time suggestions included: Victor Emanuel Monument, St. Maria degli Angeli Church, Palazzo Massimo, St. Peter-in-Chains Church. Sorry this doesn't answer your question about Trastevere and the Jewish ghetto.
Trastevere and the Jewish ghetto are practically next to each other, separated only by the river Tiber. I did not need to have a guide to go around the Jewish ghetto, and I didn't use one in Trastevere . I do remember a certain pizzeria there though...

Well don't leave us hanging :-)
We didn’t do this tour but have you thought of calling the office? They should be able to tell you.
We did do a tour of the Jewish Ghetto including a tour of the synagogue and museum. Highly recommend seeing them. We are not Jewish but it was very insightful. Also suggest having a meal while there.
If you have a free night we very much enjoyed our Eating Europe Trastevere food tour.
Enjoy both great areas of Rome.
Just got back from the 17-day Best of Italy tour. Neither of our walking tours in Rome went anywhere bear Trastavere or the Jewish Ghetto.

Thanks we might very well look into that.

Thanks! I guess we're on our own for those two areas. We plan to use Rick's audio walking tours for many sites in Italy and have them all downloaded to our phones.
