Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts on bike riding around Paris? I see it is mentioned often and I think it sounds like a great idea. For example- Can you bike from the Eiffel Tower to Notre Dame Cathedral, from Eiffel Tower to Arch De Triomphe? Are there bike trails? Is there a certain bike company you recommend? Do the bike companies give you locks for your bikes? Any other information on bikes in Paris or other stops would be welcome!
There are lots of designated bike lanes in the streets. There are also many of those bike stations where you can rent bikes with just credit card from the machine. Its called Velib

Here is a map of the bike lanes/paths.

Yes you can ride the bikes, Velib, throughout the City. Pick it up in one location & drop it off in another. The walk from the Eiffel Tower to Notre Dame along the Seine takes me about an hour, so with a bike it would be shorter.
There are a few bike tour companies (Fat Tire Tours, Bike About Tours), but those are organized rides.

There is also an App you can download to help find stations.
This needs to be added .
Biking around Paris is fine.. IF you have some big city biking experience.. the bike lanes are also Taxi and bus lanes.. not seperate just for bikes
I do recommend you take a bike tour first if not an experienced big city biker. .it will give you a good idea whether you want to go ahead and bike on your own.
Ive used Fat Tire many times (they also rent bikes as I recall.. but of course Velib system would be cheaper )
Here's the company that Pat's talking about, they get excellent reviews.
