Best of Central Europe: Prague to Slovenia in 15 Days Tour

We are considering the Best of Central Europe: Prague to Slovenia in 15 Days Tour for the summer or early fall of 2024.

I'm interested in hearing from individuals who have taken this tour recently.

Also...
What airport did you fly out of when the tour was finished?

I didn't take this tour recently but it was fantastic. I flew in to Prague and home from Munich. I took the train from Lesce Bled train station to Salzburg for a couple nights, then train from there to Munich and flew home (I used airline miles). Many people flew home from Ljubljana, and others took the train to Vienna.

There aren't many tour dates remaining for the tour so I'd book soon.

Not recently (2018) but it’s a great tour. We flew into Vienna and spent 5 days there and 2 in Cesky Krumlov before arriving in Prague a couple of days prior to the start of the tour. When the tour was over we went to Ljubljana for the day and then took a hired car/driver (there were 5 of us, making this very affordable) to Venice, where we stayed for 4 days. Flew home from Venice. I highly recommend tacking a few days to the beginning and end of the tour for independent travel if at all possible.

We did this tour in Sept/Oct 2022. It’s great.

I did a scrapbook, as well as2 other travelers, for this tour. If you go to the 2022 scrapbooks on this website you can get an indication of the tour vibe and itinerary.

We flew out of Vienna. However if we had it to do over again, we would’ve flown out of Ljubljana. We just didn’t feel like waking up at 3 am to get a flight, and transportation to an unfamiliar airport and we knew Vienna. The hotel and RS tour guide made it easy for tour members to get to Ljubljana for their early flights. Car service from Lake Bled was dependable and arranged ahead of time.

We had to take a train to Vienna. It was a hassle when the train didn’t show up and there was a bus bridge. Thankfully the young students traveling that day who knew English helped us out!

We took this tour last summer, 2023. It was great!
We were traveling independently in Vienna prior to the tour, and took the train to Prague for the start. To get home, we had first planned to fly home from Ljubljana. But a couple months after we had booked our flight, the airline (American Airlines) contacted us with flight changes that were untenable. They allowed us to change to Venice for the flight home (3 hour drive from Bled). We arranged for a GoOpti shuttle to take us from the hotel in Bled to Venice airport. It worked out fine. It was my understanding that Ljubljana can be difficult for international connections, and we found that to be true, at least to our home airport, which doesn’t offer many direct connections to/from Europe.

Happy to answer any specific questions about the tour-it was a great experience from start to finish!

Going on tour this Sept/October. All depends on where in US you are flying from. Best connections I have found are Turkish Airlines from DTW, JFK or BOS. Most flights are going to involve an overnight somewhere. Take a look at LJU airport website. You can get an idea of what departing flights there are to get you to a major airport to return home. (FRA, CDG, AMS, IST, LHR, etc). The other option available to us is Delta to Prague from DTW via JFK with AF return from LJU connecting thru CDG. Would involve an over night and more expensive than Turkish Air.

We took the tour two years ago and flew out of Ljubljana (to Amsterdam) -- Air France, early morning flight, 4 other couples from the tour were on the same flight. Easy.

Great tour!

My husband and I were on this tour in Sept/Oct 2023. We had a wonderful time - even though we got COVID and were booted off the tour in Budapest. Five of us (of 7 who got COVID) hired a private transfer to Lake Bled, our final stop, because there are no quarantine rules in Hungary, we felt okay, and we didn't want to change our flights. We enjoyed the last six days on our own and found local tours that were outstanding. Luckily we had trip insurance that paid for our meals and lodging and trip interruption coverage for the days of the tour we missed.

On the way to Europe, we flew Delta MSP -JFK - PRG. In PRG, it is very easy to catch the Airport bus (directly outside the main terminal at the end of the pickup areas to your right as you leave the terminal; buy your ticket from the driver - tap and pay with CC) to the central train station and walk from there to the Old Town or better, reserve an Uber from the station. On the way home we flew Ljubljana - AMS - MSP. The hotel arranged our taxi from Lake Bled to Ljubljana ($60). Have a great trip!
