Best of Central Europe

Has anyone seen the changes to the Best of Central Tour? One new overnight in the Czech Republic one less night in Krakow and one new overnight in Slovakia replacing Eger in Hungary. What are your thoughts especially if you’ve taken it previously. Thx Larry

I haven't taken this tour for a very long time, but am thrilled to see that they are staying in Pustevny again and the new stop in Slovakia should be great. Just a stop in Eger is good enough, not that much going on in that town for an overnight stay. I could be wrong, but it looks like the stop at the school is not on the itinerary anymore. This may be why they changed everything around. But this new itinerary is great!

Yes I agree I think it’s a great itinerary. I had already booked it for 2027 before I saw the changes

We did this tour last September and loved it. There are quite a few changes for 2027, and I think most of them look really good. I agree with the previous post that a stop in Eger is enough, and I love that Auschwitz is now on the way to Krakow instead of treating it like a day trip.

How was the weather as we are also going in September. Makes more sense logistically to go to Auschwitz on the way to Krakow. Plus both new stops look very good

I took this tour in 2012 and have seen the various changes they've made to the itinerary each year, all seem to be improvements. We didn't stay in Slovakia (just drove through) but did stay in Eger. I enjoyed our stay there along with a wonderful winery visit, but at least you will see the town. I loved Krakow and hate to see the extra day there removed, but that lonnnng driving day from Prague is now broken up with the one night stop in rural town on the way. I will still suggest you arrive at least a full day ahead before the tour (two is better) as there is so much to do in Prague and the tour barely covers it. Enjoy your tour, it was one of my favorites.

We are going to arrive 3 nights prior to the tour start. I agree Prague has lots to see.

Our weather was upper 70s and low 80s. We only saw rain two days, and happened to be driving both times. We were there from Aug 24-Sept 7, then a couple more days in Ljubljana post tour.

Sound great we are going September 3-17th. Hopefully the weather will be similar. We like the cooler weather compared to Rome Paris etc

We're considering the Central Europe tour May 14 - May 28 but I'm concerned that it might become too hot as it progresses farther south. My partner and I have different heat tolerances.

I’m joining this tour this year on October 2-16. I’ve been on 2 RS tours so I kind of know what to expect. It’s my first time in Central Europe though.

We were on the Central Europe tour in 2024. The night in the Czech countryside, then on to Auschwitz-Birkenau seems like a good idea, as it saves a lot of "back tracking" time. I'm surprised Eger was removed from the itinerary. That is where much of our group bonded. That's not to say that Smokovec isn't a good addition. Stopping to see the Lippizzan horses (instead of Ljubljana) is a positive change. Ljubljana was not that interesting.
