Best of Adriatic September pre- post tour suggestions

Planning on Sept 16 Best of Adriatic tour. Booking 2 pre night in Ljubljana

Looking for suggestions on local tour to Scokjan caves and other stops Piran? for Monday the 15th. Don't want to rent a car

Seeking suggestions also on pre tour city for a 3-4 night stay . Flights from the west coast are not great no matter so thinking 3 nights in Vienna then train to Ljubljana. Its been almost 30 years since I've been to Vienna and it was a quick stop didn't get to the museums
Venice I've been for an extended visit but don't want to repeat it necessarily.

Post tour have 1-2 additional days after tour : additional time in Dubrovnik? Day trip trip Bay of Kotor ? Other Islands Lokrum or beach day at Cavtat?

Any suggestions welcome or other cities pretour you'd recommend with easy rail connections to Ljubljana to arrive there on the 14th.

This was the best tour! I spent a couple of days in Ljubljana pre-tour and went on 2 day tours with a company called To Do in Slovenia (I found them through Trip Advisor but booked directly with them on their website). One day we went to the Lipica Stud Farm and then on to the coastal town of Piran which was lovely - what an interesting little town to wander the narrow streets. The second day I went on a trip to Postojna Cave which was absolutely amazing, and then we stopped at Predjama Castle on the way back. Both trips were in a minivan with a couple of other people and the driver/guide provided a good commentary on the way to and from. Once at each location you were on your own to enjoy the sights at your own pace, and just had to meet the van in time for departure. Very inexpensive way to get to some interesting sights without having to navigate on my own. I was picked up a couple of blocks from my hotel both times, so it was easy. The city of Ljubljana is definitely worth some time to explore on your own as well. After the tour you may want to look at spending a day or 2 or 3 in Montenegro - beautiful country and coastline.

We took this tour in 2023. We flew to Venice. From there you can book the Go Opti minivan transfer that takes you directly to your hotel door in Ljubljana. It was cheap, and under 3 hour drive even stopping for one or two other passengers and the obligatory break for driver.

At the end of the tour we flew to Zagreb. It's well worth a couple of days. And Zagreb has more flight options than Dubrovnik.

We did this tour in the fall but quite a few years ago. We spent several nights in Salzburg then the train to Ljubljana—beautiful trip through the mountains.
In Ljubljana we wanted to visit he Scokjan caves but the tour company did not have the day tour available on the day we wanted. We too the train with a shuttle to the caves. We missed the last shuttle back so started walking. An employee of the caves picked us up along with another couple and took us to the station. The shuttle should have been there but wasn’t. The caves were very interesting and not touristy.
After the tour a group of us hired a van and driver for a day trip to Montenegro. Our original plan was to take the ferry to Bari, Italy but ferry service after mid September was limited so be took a bus to Sarajevo then home via Munich. A few glitches on the way home but we made it.
The tour was great and September was a great time. We did have a few hot days and it poured rain in Kotor but cleared for the rest of Montenegro.
