My husband and I will be on a late May RS Best of the Adriatic tour, and we will arrive early and spend a couple of days at Lake Bled. I know that we will make a stop there on the tour, but we thought it would be a relaxing place to hike while recovering from jet lag. I'm planning our time in Bled and I have a question for someone who has already taken this tour: How much time is allotted in Lake Bled on the morning that we leave Ljubljana? And what activities are included in the time spent in Bled?
I went on this tour in May, 2018 -- on that tour, the first stop was a tour of Bled Castle. We then proceeded to the Lake, where we were given a few hours to explore on our own. I am not exactly sure how many, but my husband and I had time to rent bikes for a ride around the lake, then have a light lunch, then stroll around the lake and finally share a piece of Bled Cream Cake at a little cafe. We did not take a boat out to the small island. Some members of our group did that, I am not sure how long that took, but everyone seemed pretty satisfied that they had sufficient time to do what they wanted to do. I hope this helps!
We took the tour Sept 23'. We had enough time for the Pletna (boat) ride( we went as a group but think it was self pay) lunch(on your own) and then a shortened walk around the lake(on your own). It will be an awesome place to decompress, good call.
Thank you! This helps a lot. We can leave the castle for the tour, though we may want to climb the hill if it's a beautiful day. In 2022, we had to leave the Eastern Europe tour when one of us got COVID, so we missed the couple of days at Lake Bled. We love to hike and the birds should still be migrating through, so it just sounds like a wonderful, relaxing start to the trip.
Plus, we get an early start on the cream cake!
We were not on rick steves tour.
We walked all of the way around the lake and walked up to the castle, had lunch up there, not expensive and amazing views. We had our cream cake mid afternoon at another Cafe. We toured the castle, which doesn't take long, and poked our nose in various shops around the lake. We did take the boat out to the church, it's a separate fee to enter the church, which we did not do. We also bought some amazing cherries from a vendor and some hand made earrings
We went in Sept 2024. We toured the castle with the group first. Afterwards the group split up. Most people took the boats to the island. We decided to walk around the lake perimeter instead and enjoy all the views. Afterwards, we had time for lunch with the famous cake on our own. There was plenty of time for what we did, but not for both going to the island and walking the perimeter while leaving time for a meal. You picked a lovely place to recover from jet lag.
