I'm going on this tour next April 2027. I pack light and on a 2 week tour do laundry at least once. I searched and didn't see anyone had asked this question, although my key words may not have been the best.
Those of you who have taken this tour were there any hotels that provided a laundry service? Was there a handy laundrette near any of the hotels that you used?
I do hand wash for underwear, but I do like to start with fresh clothes sometime during the tour.
Hope you enjoy this tour as much as I did. Colmar’s 5 a sec on Avenue de la Republique was a drop-off laundry location that offered pretty quick turnaround—same day or next day pick up, if I’m remembering correctly. I ended up at a self-service laverie on the other side of the railroad tracks because 5 a sec couldn’t accept any more drop-offs on the day i tried it.
Depending what you want to wash and how quickly you have to pack - it might be worth bringing a collapsible bucket (they are like $15-20 on Amazon) and a clothesline and some laundry detergent sheets. Get hot water, fill the bucket soak your clothes overnight then rinse them in the morning and let air dry all day. Soaking them in this way cleans just as good as going to a laundry and saved valuable time (as long as you have engouh time to air dry).
We took advantage of the drop off laundry in Chamonix. We dropped it off in the morning and picked it up in the afternoon. Very convenient.
Few years back now but we used a drop off service recommended by our guide in Chamonix. Day 8 i believe. Worked out fine. Nice gentlemen running it. Not far walk from our hotel(cant say for your tour) . I don't recall much in the way of hotel service offerings on that tour.
Normally your guide at your orientation meeting will give you advice on the best place for laundry. Most of our clothes are quick dry and easy to rinse out and be dry by the next morning.
Margie, this will be my 10th Rick tour and I agree most of the guides will suggest something about where to launder at the 1st meeting. However, if I have an idea ahead of time, it helps me plan what to pack. Thanks for responding, everyone.
We used the laundromat in Chamonix. It was listed in the guidebook and an easy walk from the hotel.
