Berlin, Prague, Vienna

We are arriving in Berlin 3 days before our tour starts in September. Can anyone who has been on this tour help with planning? We can't tell if the tour allows time for Museum Island, especially the German Historical Museum, the Alte National Gallery. GDR Museum.

Jmbauermeister,
I did this tour in 2015 and the excellent German History Museum was part of the tour but in reading the tour description, I can’t easily discern whether it’s still on the tour. I toured the Alte National Gallery which is on Museum Island on my early arrival days as well as the Pergamon Museum, the Jewish Museum and the Gemaldegalerie. It’s good that you will have three days pre tour to take in many fascinating sights.
I would call the RS office and ask them.
You will love this tour, it’s an exceptional itinerary!

We did this tour several years ago and loved it. We arrived 3 days early and didn’t get to see everything we wanted. The German Historical Museum was not included and we spent most of a day there (I think it was a late start/jet lag day). I don’t remember the tour spending much time on Museum Island and the museums there were great. If I recall we had a museum pass that covered our 3 days prior to the tour and free time on the days spent with the tour.
We toured the Reichstag which was quite interesting (free but reservations required in advance—more than a week in advance). We took a cruise on the river. We went to Potsdam for a day—very interesting due to scheduled protests and counter protests. Several tour members went to the zoo and gave it positive reviews.
This is a great tour.

My friend and I just completed this trip. We were on the May 29th departure and arrived in Berlin on May 26th because we wanted to spend some time on our own before the trip. I had done a lot of pre-trip research and the German Historical Museum was something I wanted to see. Unfortunately, it is closed now for renovation. We had time to go to the Pergamon Museum and the Neues Museum on Museum Island, visit the Berlin Cathedral, and take a Spree River Cruise before the RS tour started. You will have some free time in the afternoons, but the touring days start early and you'll be covering a lot of ground so you might not have the energy to also tackle a large museum.

I would be happy to answer any other questions you might have.

For those who have been on this tour recently - what guidebooks did RS provide for you in the tour kit? I've wanted to prepare for next year and have been given conflicting info. Some have said a pocket guide was given for Prague and the more complete guides for Berlin & Vienna. Was that true for you?

We are signed up for this tour next October, 2023, but will only go on it, if the testing requirement are eliminated. However, I would be interested in a trip report upon your return!

I just came home from this tour on Sunday. We did not go into any museums on Museum Island. So, if you want to do any I would go ahead and reserve in advance and do before the tour starts. On our first full day of touring (day 2), We did a walking tour with a guide. The tour ended with Turkish lunch that ended at 3 pm. There aren't very many museums open on Monday either. Then, Day 3 (Tuesday) we did another walking tour but more on the side where the East Germans lived before the wall fell. The tour ended in the Otto Weidt museum area (same place as the Turkish Restaurant).

@disneyfreak67 - thank you! That's what I was thinking. It didn't seem right that only a pocket guide would be given for one of the 3 cities. I had sent an email to RS office 2 weeks ago and received the automated notice but no one ever answered my question.
