Athens and Heart of Greece question

We will be taking this tour in October and on Day 6, it's a free day with nothing planned. I wanted to see if we could set up something for that day. The itinerary only say that you are staying in a seaside village on the Mani Peninsula. If anyone knows where we will be staying then maybe I could do some research. Any help from RS vets that have done this tour?

Thanks,
David

When we took this tour a few years ago we stayed in Kardamyli but since RS just says "a seaside village on the Mani Peninsula" they may stay somewhere else depending on availability or pricing. Your best bet is probably to call the office and ask them if details are firm for your particular tour date.

I did the RS Greece tour in May 2022. It ranks as my favorite of the 7 RS tours I've done. Our day in the Mani was also in Kardamyli, one of my favorite locations on the tour. On our free day there, my traveling buddy and I decided to sit on the beach and do some walking. A fair number of our tour group did optional kayaking; our tour guide told our group in advance about the opportunity. It cost extra but I don't think was expensive. I, too recommend that you call the RS office to ask if you will be staying in Kardamyli or elsewhere on the Mani.

Our tour also stayed in Kardamyli. There is an old fort town you can visit and explore the various buildings, and from there you can hike the trail up to the top of the hill to an old church. The trail is uneven in places so don’t go in sandals and take water with you. I think it took us about an hour and a half to get up to the top. Great views. Other people did go swimming, but found the water cold at the end of April. Not sure what it would be like in October.

I did the tour in May 2022 and we stayed in Kardamyli like others mentioned. There is a "beach" (in quotes because almost all beaches in Greece are rocks, not sand - ouch!) and an old town with some hiking in the area. Our guide mentioned a kayak tour as a suggestion for our free day and almost half our group decided to sign up for it. It was one of my favorite experiences! We did about a half-day of kayaking along the coast & into caves. They also included lunch for the group on a (rocky) beach. They offered training before we got in the water and had multiple guides with the group, so it's newbie-friendly. It was a great time!
