Anyone other than Americans on Rick's tours

I know Rick gears his tours toward Americans but I assume they're open to foreigners as well. Has anyone been on a RS tour with anyone from outside the US?

There have been a few Canadians on tours I have done. Off hand, I don't recall any other nationalities.

We are Canadians and are going on our second Rick Steves tour this October. On our first tour there were also New Zealanders.

We had an Australian couple on one of our RS tours (can’t remember which one). With that one exception, everyone on our 7 RS tours were American.

We've been on tours with people from Canada, South Africa, the Philippines, Mexico, Syria, Iran, and one East Asian country that I'm sorry, I don't remember. I remember the person, but not her homeland.

It seems like there were more... If I can remember any others, I'll come back and add them.

Canadians from Alberta and Ontario were on two of the RS tours I’ve taken.

Two Australians were on our RS Swiss tour in July. Great folks!

Happy travels.

Yep have had a person from Chile once with a friend who translated for her! Not exclusive to U.S. by any means, as our last tour also had some folks from Mexico, but predominantly U.S. based folks. Not sure if the office keeps a tally or not.

We've only had American's on our three RS tours, but all three tours have been very friendly, welcoming groups. Everyone gets excited when there is one person under 50; so imagine how excited and welcoming everyone would be to someone from another country!

I've had 3 Canadians and a South African on 2 of my RS Tours. I'm also a foreigner from HK myself. RS mainly markets in the USA, whereas other companies like Contiki, Trafalgar, Globus, etc, advertises mainly in Australia, and will have mostly Australians.

We had a couple from Northern Ireland on our tour this spring. They were on the tour with cousins from the USA.

We have also had Canadians on our tours.

My husband and I have been on two tours, one last year and one this year. Last year there was one other Canadian besides us and this year we were the lone Canadians. Otherwise, all Americans. There were some lovely people on both tours.
Last year it was fine, this year it felt awkward to be Canadian on an American tour.

Sorry it felt awkward for you. Did your tourmates make you feel awkward? Or did you feel you made them feel awkward? No one should feel awkward especially when you're spending so much of your hard earned money to travel and have a good time.

We are suburban Detroiters who always appreciate and enjoy having Canadians join the tours. On one tour we had a couple from Windsor, Ontario who were like next door neighbors to us. I worked many years with a fellow from Windsor, Ontario who commuted every day to Ford Motor Co., Dearborn, Michigan and we became real comrades over time.

My husband, brother and SIL are Canadians from western Canada and this Fall will be our 5th RS tour. Booked much earlier than when some of the “sensitive subject” occurred between the 2 nations. I anticipate nothing but a good time.

I think there was some awkwardness on both sides. A lot of people apologized to us and a couple avoided us, whether because they felt awkward or not, there was a sense of otherness.
I think the majority treated us just like everyone else. Overall, just like the previous trip, there were some people I really liked. I’m sure we will take another RS tour someday.
What is happening in the states is very hard to ignore for both us and Americans.

There were 3 Canadians on my great Village Italy tour this past April. Our guide, Trina, handed out the open letter to Canadian travelers Rick Steves put out in March to everyone during the opening meeting. I think she wanted it to be clear where she and the company stood. One couple admitted they were somewhat apprehensive how the tour would go with their fellow travelers but were greatly relieved and had a great time. It was their first tour of any kind.

I’ve been on 11 tours and I’d say half of them had Canadians on board.

There were 2 Australian women on my RS Basque Country tour in May 2025. They fit in very well.

Out of our 12 tours, I can remember quite a few Canadians, an older couple originally from Cuba that had done 20+ tours, a couple from the UK that were with their older children that lived in US and a couple from New Zealand.

This was such an interesting question. Until I read this question I had never thought about it one way or the other . We have been on 7 RS Tours and when people introduce themself and say where they are from it doesn’t faze me one way or the other. Most of us on the tours are not the ones making the decisions for our country. We vote and how it plays out and what happens from there is pretty much out of our control until the next election when we can try again. I have come across a few people that were not my cup of tea but it had nothing to do with what country or US state they were from. I am sure there were people on our tours that found me not to be their cup of tea. Never thought it might be because I am from the United States.

I certainly would go on one of these tours if it were all Canadian. Any chance of that?

I’ve been on three tours now, and only once was I the only Canadian. Going on my fourth tour in October. I have not encountered any other travellers outside of the US and Canada.

While the current situation between our two countries gives us concern, we are still going on our RS tour this September, and we are from Canada. We are going ahead with our tour because of the terrific support from RS during Covid, not just communicating and refunding us, but treating staff and overseas guides well too. RS supports Bread for the World and shows respect for the countries that we visit. We are often the only Canadians on a RS tour and all our American co travellers have been welcoming, helpful and fun. We have had such amazing times on these tours I recommend them to everyone. I believe in these trying times all of us will be happy to leave politics at home and just enjoy each others company. Italy here we come!

I've often wondered if they ran one Paris and the Heart of France tour per year that went to the Canadian WWII sites rather than the American ones if it would fill up.

We are Aussies and have never travelled with any others from downunder. In fact "Rick Steve's" tours are not know in Australia at all.
Telling friends what tour we were taking, we said Rick Steve's, and they thought he was just the tour guide ;)

Happy to see some Canadians and Aussie's still coming to be with us Americans :). We just got our roster for our October Scotland trip and it's all Americans. I'd love to meet some folks from other countries on tour, too. Lynn H-when I tell people here in PA that we are traveling on RS tours, they think he's guiding too lol....even though they know him from tv!
