Did you fly into Shannon or Dublin then take a train to Ennis? Shannon seems to have fewer flight options but not sure if the rain from Dublin to Ennis would be a big hassle.

We flew into Shannon and home from Dublin. It is a short taxi ride from Shannon airport to Ennis. I would definitely recommend Shannon. We really enjoyed this tour and we had been to Ireland 4 times before on our own. It was nice to leave the driving to someone else.
We flew in to Shannon and then took the bus to Ennis, because we got in early in the afternoon. Friends that arrived early evening in Shannon took a taxi. The Shannon airport is very easy to navigate. The bus pulls up right in front. We were at The Old Ground hotel, which was about 3 blocks from the bus station.
We flew into Dublin and took the train to Ennis, mostly because we wanted a couple of extra days in Dublin. I have a friend who lives in Dublin and was only available to meet at the beginning of the trip, so we added the extra Dublin days at the beginning. The train is really easy to take to Ennis. You'll have to change trains in Limerick and the trains we booked only gave us a few minutes as a stopover. But, changing trains is only crossing from one side of the platform to the other. It's an absolutely beautiful ride!
