Alpe di Siussi questions.

I'd like to both spend some time hiking AND go to Bolzano for a few hours. I can't figure out the route to Bolzano since I don't know where we'll be staying. Or does the hotel vary for different tours? Maybe there isn't time to do both. Also, only info I find about the Trail of the Witches shows it starting in Castelrotto. Do we stay near there??

When I did the My Way Alpine tour a few years ago, we stayed in Bolzano. I think the tour does move around so you may be elsewhere. Getting from Bolzano to the lift to Alpe di Siusi was on a public bus. Took about 1/2 hour if I remember correctly. Bus leaves from Bolzano bus station.

Maybe phone the tour department for the latest info? My tour a few years ago stayed in Bolzano, but I think that may have changed.

Which tour are you looking at?

Different tours will likely be at different hotels. When I was on the Best of Italy( 17 day) tour a Best of Europe group was in a different hotel in Monterosso at the same time. We met them at the train station as we were leaving.

On the Best of Italy tour we stayed in Castelrotto and had a day to do hiking and also stopped in Bolzano to do Otzi and grab lunch. (See the day 4 &5 in the Best of Italy itinerary)

On the My Way Alpine tour a few years ago, we stayed in Castlerotto. Sounded like other My Way tours have stayed in Bolzano. We were going to do the Trail of Witches, but our tour manager suggested the Panorama tour instead, and we're so glad she made that suggestion. It was wonderful. I think for any of the hikes, you take a bus from Castlerotto to the gondola which takes you up into the Alpe de Siussi.

I was on the My Way Alpine tour in 2015 - it was the first year they switched from Bolzano to Castelrotto, mainly because the latter was much closer to the Alpe di Siusi. A few of the people on the tour grabbed a bus to Bolzano as soon as we got to Castelrotto and had about an hour in the museum with Otzi. The Trail of the Witches was not on the radar then.
