Hi folks,
We are going to be taking the Adriatic in 14 Days trip, which will be our second RS tour. The one thing I wish we had done differently on the first trip was to spend more time researching what to do in our free time. Can anyone who has taken that trip offer up some of the things you did in your own time that were not part of the tour, especially important to us is finding good local restaurants, preferably (but necessarily) close to our tour hotels.

The Plecnick House tour in Ljubljana was a great introduction to the architecture of the city.

If you are a basketball fan Luka Donic’s childhood basketball court in Ljubljana (pretty far from the RS hotel and city center)
My husband and I took this trip in 2025, and after seven RS tours, I would say it was either my first or second favorite. We always arrive one or two days early in order to get over jetlag. This time, we arrived two days early and went to Bled for the first two nights. I'm so glad that we did! It was such a peaceful and beautiful place to adapt to European time. We walked around the lake and took the boat across to the island. One of the days we walked one of the trails that goes up the hillside and were treated to beautiful views.
In Split, we went to Mass at the Cathedral that was originally the burial place of Emperor Diocletian. It's a tiny church, and the num who cantored had the most beautiful voice. When I have a chance, I'll check my travel journal for any other ideas.

We are on this tour in October and going in two days early. I’ve yet to decide what we might do. Jet lag is going to be horrendous as we
fly out of LAX with a five hour layover in Istanbul during the middle of the night for California time. I don’t do jet lag very well.
We just returned at the very end of August. We loved Ljubljana, we only got there one night early but would return there again. Make sure to get gelato at Romantika- it was the best of our entire trip! In our free time in Split we took a quick afternoon boat ride. It was the boat that looked like a pirate ship, it was an impulse decision and turned out great. The boat took us around the peninsula of Split and stopped for anyone who wanted to take a jump in the sea. We also enjoyed a great dinner at Skalinada. For our free time on Korcula we knew we just wanted to relax. Took the advice of our taxi driver and he took us across the island to Pupnatska Luka Bay, it was gorgeous! They have padded lounge chairs and umbrellas available to rent there, along with a restaurant serving basic lunch items. We stayed two nights extra in Dubrovnik, one night we took a sunset kayak tour which was fabulous! So relaxing and beautiful out on the water. The second day we rented a private boat with a few other couples from our tour group and just spent the day on the water, visiting little coves and cooling off in the ocean.
