17 Day Italy Trip - Day 3 & 4 Dolomites

I am wondering if there is any leeway with the 17 Day Best of Italy Tour with going to Ortisei to Seceda versus doing to Alpe Di Siusi trip instead? Was not sure what area we are in on those two days of the 17 Day Best of Italy Tour? Thanks! TC

It is your choice where to go on your free day there. Perhaps you can find out which town/village you are staying, so you can check the SudTirol Bus schedule ahead of time If Kastelruth, all the buses leave from a central parking lot near the hotels. You would just take the #172 bus to Ortisei (instead of another bus to the Alpi di Siusi area). There may be a second bus that goes to Ortisei besides the 172. It’s really straightforward. The neat thing with Ortisei is you can go up to Seceda, then cross the valley, and go up the other side to the Alpi di suisi if you choose. Just check the return trip! It varies by time of year. Take rain gear all year.

For BOI, we stayed closer to the Alpi di Suisi, so we were walking distance to the main gondolas, etc. The bus would be slightly more involved from there. You can take bus #172 if you stay in Bolzano also (but see if the tour bus makes a trip up in the morning).

For My Way Alpine, we stayed in Kastelruth. I also stayed there before our tour met up (bc I love it!) and then took train to meet them in Salzburg. On my first day in Kastelruth, I went up the little Marinzen chairlift for a drink and relaxed on the meadow with the animals and the clean air. You can hike down, but I rode both ways. Quite an experience riding up just over the trees, seeing the farmers bale their hay, the sweet blooming flowers and the amazing landscape of the Dolomites. Enjoy yourselves!

We did this tour last Sept. it was not at all crowded in Sept and we had perfect weather. Our tour bus took us up the mountain from Bolzano which maximized our time in the ADS and we did not have to deal with public transport. I will say that day ranks in the top 5 days of my whole life. The hikes, views, gondolas, huts/ food / beer. There is a reason Rick vacations there. Unless you have been there before and are looking for a new experience I would encourage you to stick with the tour and you will love the experience. The walks or hikes are as hard or easy as you want which is another advantage. We all had on sneakers. No hiking boots were necessary. You will love the tour!
