We will be in Zurich four days. Can you suggest your top choices of things to do. We have not been there before.

Zurich is a nice city, but its tourist attractions are a bit lacking it won't take more than a day to get through them. It's top attraction would be the Zoo, easily reached via tram from the main train station.

My suggestion: if you HAVE to stay in Zurich rather than one of the more interesting places (from a tourist's perspective) take as many trips outside as possible. Luzern and Bern are great choices. I also loved Lake Thun, the Ballenberg Open Air museum. And one of our favourite memories in Switzerland: a ride up the Niesen with the funicular and great views over Lake Thun.

Zurich is a really great city, but you will easily be able to see everything in 1-2 days. Rick has a good walking tour of the city in his book that covers all of the main attractions. The zoo is nice, you could take a ferry to one of the towns down the lake, or take the tram then hike to Uetliberg (one of the hills that overlooks the lake and you can see the Alps in the distance). Be sure to try some chocolate at the Sprungli shop. This website may also help: http://www.zuerich.com. Lucerne is really nice and is a short trip from Zurich.
