Zurich to Milan in March

Is it possible to drive from Zurich to Milan across the Alps in March? I'm contemplating renting a car in Frankfurt and driving south into Northern Italy and back over a 3 week period. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks.

I took a bus from Milan to Zurich in December a few years back - no weather related problems.
