Hi, We're planning a trip to Bavaria this November (we'll have a car). We did the Zugspitze from Ehrwald, Austria a few years ago and were wondering if there's a cable car (not the train/cable car trip) to the top from the Garmisch side. I did check the www.Zugspitze.de website and it's a bit confusing to me. Thanks for any info you can give me.

There is a cable car on the German side that runs from the Eibsee to the top. Since you have a car, you can drive to Eibsee from Garmisch. If you prefer, you can take the cog train from Garmisch to the Eibsee and there transfer to the cable car for the trip to the top.

Hi, Paul. I just was looking at the Zugspitze site too and decided to see what the Rick Steves helpline said and there was your post (the very first listing). I think Nick answered my question too. Since we are picking our car up in G-P, think we will drive to Eibsee and take the cable car from there[INVALID]but only on a clear day!! Thanks for all your previous help-actually still "pouring over" your past itineraries. We leave next week. Enjoy your trip.
