Zugspitze and Neuschwanstein on same day?

My wife and I are planning on taking a day trip from Munich on April 28th (a Monday). We are planning on renting a car and leaving Munich about 7:30 am. We would like to drive to Eibsee and take the cable car to and from the Zugspitze summit. After that we'd like to drive to and tour Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. Is this doable on the same day?

Probably feasible, if you get an early start. BUT... the weather for the Zugspitze portion may not cooperate, particularly in April. A visit to the castles at Schwangau is at least a fairly weather-neutral activity. Cloudy or stormy weather, though, could turn your Zugspitze ascent into nothing more than a trip into haze. I would suggest keeping a flexible schedule, rather than fixating on one date. Go for this plan on the first day with a favorable weather forecast.

Hi Chris,

I can understand having a particular date available for certain trips.

Figure on 1:30 to 2 hours drive time. Rush hour... Add time.

It's doable, but might bbe rushed. Both castle's can be around 3 hours total time spent.

If it's clear, do the Zugspitze first. Have a backup plan if it's not clear. Maybe have Ettal, Linderhof, Oberammergau, etc. as backup's. We found the old town of Fuessen to be charming.

Could you rent the car and get to Fuessen the evening before?

Thank you both! These tips are very helpful. I will check the Zugspitze weather before we go and have a backup plan. We won't be able to get to Füssen the preceding evening, but I can understand how that would be a good idea.
