Hi Linda,
... we've taken rooms a number of times at Pension Pertschy and also Pension Nossek. Nossek is in a building on The Graben which once housed an apartment of W. A. Mozart and wife. Both are conveniently located a "stones throw" of Saint Stephens cathedral, right in the heart of it all.

Haus Ballwein in Salzburg. Not downtown but can get there by bus. The nice part is it's outside of town and the views are great. It's a converted barn and so Austrian.
