From Zermatt to Zurich by train, can anyone recommend a scenec route and a shortest route? I would like to complete the travel around noon, if possible. Thank you.
www.sbb.ch is the website you want to check
Plugging 12:00 into the website for your desired trip - Looks like there is a 12:39 train from Zermatt that Transfers at Visp. 3 hrs 19 total minutes.
Personally I think most train trips in Switzerland can be classified as pretty scenic :).
You really don't have much choice if you want the shortest route. From Zermatt, the trains go east to Visp where you change trains to go north to Zurich. You may even change trains again at Bern on some runs. Faster runs take 3hrs-19min. Slower runs take 3hrs-49min. You'll like the scenery until you see all of the graffiti along the rail right-of-way in Zurich.
there are some express trains freom Bern to Zurich and Lucern to Zurich for the biz travelers (non stop). There are lots of options but use SBB (english) to check out times and options. I also left Zermatt area and got to Zurich by noon-ish. About 3.5 hrs with only a few changes. You can expand the stops to see how many. ALSO - you can easily ask the SBB-clerks at the window in Zermatt the day before. They can help you take the faster routes.
