Zermatt/Matterhorn

We are suddenly going to Zermatt in August.
I would like a recommendation for a nice hotel in Zermatt.

If budget is not a big concern, I suggest the Coeur des Alpes. If budget is a concern, what is your price range?

If budget is a concern then look for the Hotel Garni Tannenhof. Clean and cheap and located just beside the 5-star Zermatterhof Hotel.

We enjoyed Hotel Daniela-our room, with a balcony, had a perfect view of the Matterhorn. Hotel Julen is owned by the same family, is a bit more upscale and has a pool that is available to guests at the Daniela. The breakfast was one of the best we have had in Europe.

I liked this place a lot: http://www.reconline.ch/romantica/ Not "fancy," but extremely clean, comfortable and pleasant. Guest-room was nice (and immaculate, in that typical Swiss way!) and breakfast each AM, served in a very pleasant room, was good, too. Centrally located, too. On quiet street, yet just steps away to the car-free, pedestrian village, restaurants as well to the cable-car that takes you up into the mountains. Excellent value, too (which helps in a town like Zermatt, which is VERY expensive)! Enjoy Zermatt! We we there in late spring, so got some great spring skiing in, but sure summer is equally as beautiful (and the hiking should be terrific).

We were in Zermatt for two nights this week and stayed at the Ambassador. It was close to the railway station, rate included breakfast, was super clean plus we had a bedroom, bathroom and a lounge area. Staff were very friendly. We liked the space and had front and back balconies, both had views of he Alps, including the Matterhorn.

Zermatt is a ski resort and there are really a lot of nice hotels. Swiss hospitality standards are very high, and you can expect just about anyplace to be clean and comfortable. Beyond those, you can seek out coziness, charm, flower-bedecked balconies, Matterhorn views, spa luxury, family-run management, trendy modernity, whatever you like. The Julian and the Daniela are owned by a long-time Zermatt family and are good choices. I just suggested Coeur des Alpes because it is so different-trendy modern rather than chalet-stype coziness. But there are lots of other good choices too, ask you can see from th esuggestons here.
