We are thinking of visiting either the Berner Oberland region in August as my father is visiting. We'd like to have a chilled 3-4 days enjoying the Alps scenery. However, we have a 3 yr old and a pair of year-old twins. Would the trip would be suitable and where should we stay? Obviously, long hikes are out of the question.
Sorry, I forgot to add- would Salzburg, Hallstatt and Bergtesgaden be better alternatives for us? FYI, we are driving from Stuttgart.Any suggestions and tips will be really helpful.
We took our 2 year old to the BO a few weeks ago and he did fine. We stayed at Hotel Stabach (in Ricks Book) and they were wonderful. They had a play area downstairs and a place for him to run around outside. The hotel is very basic, but the staff and play area made up for it. They were able to give us advice on which trails we could take our stroller on. We were even able to go up to the Jungfrau and Shilthorn with the stroller. It rained one day and we went to the Ballenberg museum and our son really enjoyed it. Happy planning.
I've been to all the areas you mention, albeit without children. I personally think if you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy beautiful scenery, the Berner Oberland is the better choice. We stay in Lauterbrunnen (where Hotel Staubbach is located) and love it there. There are many places to walk or take short hikes and it has a lot of atmosphere. The other places you mention are all nice, but having visited all three I would choose Lauterbrunnen.
Ditto to Connie's above advice.
