I will have a car and be driving around Europe. If anyone has been here, is it worth seeing? If so, what towns do you suggest? I know of Klagenfurt, are they any other places to see?

Beautiful und lovely area, located between the Alps and the Karawanken mountains. Lake district with several lakes all worthwhile, especially Lake Ossiachersee, Wörthersee, Millstädter See and Faaker See from which the view of the Karawanken mountains is breathtaking. Places to visit are the towns of Velden, Maria Wörth, Klagenfurt, St. Veit, Villach. Plenty of castles in the area as well. You could spend weeks in Carinthia!

Carinthia (Kärnten) is Austria's warm-water escape in summer - locals love it because it gives them a beachside vacation without the need to learn a language or adapt to local customs. All the lakes that Andreas mentioned are very popular, so if you plan on vacationing there, check accommodations. Favorite towns are Völkermarkt, Villach, and Pörtschach, but Maria Wörth is the most picturesque.
