We're going to be in Britain in late July and would like to include a quick visit to France to see the WWII Beaches and the American cemetery Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France. We're going to be near Dover. Would it work to go to Calais and travel from there?
Sig, Some additional information would be very helpful. What do you mean by a "quick visit"??? Are you planning to do that as a day trip from Dover? I'd suggest spending a couple of days in Normandy (preferably Bayeux), as that would allow you to see the D-Day sites. You'll also have to consider the question of transportation. The historic sites are spread out over about a 50-mile front, and extend some distance inland. Taking one of the excellent day tours would be a good idea, since they take care of all the transportation. Cheers!
