We will be in Berlin in May & wanted to visit the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg do we need to make reservations in advance? We would like to take the factory tour.
If you plan to visit the VW museum in Wolfsburg, you might want to call the museum that day to re-confirm the visiting times. My husband and I knew the museum hours but it turned out there was a special event that day so he only had 1/2 hour to tour the museum. It was disappointing after driving from Goslar to tour.
In Wolfsberg the big thing is Autostadt – auto city. It combines a comprehensive auto history museum, displays showing all of the brands that VW owns – think Bentley, Audi and Lamborghini to name just a few, a "cross county route" where you can drive a VW SUV and lots of kid's activities, restaurants, gift shops, etc. There's also an adjacent science museum and at the time we went – maybe 4 years ago, a Ritz-Carlton hotel with some of the lowest room rates I've ever seen for that brand.
Also in Germany, lots of buyers take delivery of their new car at the factory, so there is that whole side of it. But an actual tour of the assembly line? Don't know. (Don't ask your local VW dealer – they won't know!)
