How warm is it really around Jan 1 along Portugal's southern coast? Swimming at the beach warm? Light jacket warm? Thanks.

In Faro in the Algarve, based on long-term weather data, the average daily high in January is 60 at the hottest part of the day (say 4 pm) and the average low at 5 am is 48. Thus the average temps during the middle part of the day would be in the mid to high 50's, topping out at 60 in late afternoon. These are long-term averages for Faro along the part of the coast that is farthest south.
