Wineries around Beaune

Suggestions for visiting a winery in Beaune. Will be there just one night and day on our way from Florence to Paris by train.

There are many windery "caves" in the heart of town..well marked, and well managed. You will have no trouble in finding several.

Two good bets that are within the walls of the town are the Marche aux Vins and the Caves du Couvent des Cordeliers. ¶ However, if the weather is good and you are game, there are many wine caves within a short easy bicycle ride of Beaune. The towns of Meursault and Pommard are just a few miles to the south, and there is a vinyard in Aloxe-Corton (also close at hand) that offers tasting lunches. ¶ The bicycle shop in town, a short walk outside the walls, gives excellent itinerary advice to all interests and levels of bicycling skill.

If you are a casual wine drinker- or drink to enjoy- you cant help finding wine, either in town or on the nearby roads. Visit your local wine shop and ask them for some names of Burgundy wine villages (most of the villages have a known wine under the village name) so that you will know what villages to aim at, if you want to get out of town. there are tons of signs along the main roads into Beaune

Thanks so much for your suggestions. As we are a party of four ladies over fifty, bike tours might be a little too much. My sister is 82. Thinking of something where they will pick you up at your accommodations and tour for part of a day. Will be there over Christmas holidays too so that is another wrinkle...as to whether they will operating on Dec 24th which is the day we would like to do this.

Mary, of course you can drive to any of these destinations too. Rent a car for a day or hire a driver. ¶ What's open is another question. I'd expect most attractions, such as the Hotel Dieu, to be on reduced hours at best in late December. Some might simply close.

Mary - I'm afraid you're going to be out of luck. Many, if not all of the wineries, are closed Dec. 24th. If you were coming another time of year, you could take one of the tours that drives you around to different wineries. Have you checked out Beaune's tourism website? It's quite nice and has lots of information available in English.

Yes, I did check Beaune city website and they are sending me some brochures on some wineries and points of interest. I know....trying to do anything on the 24-26th is going to be difficult. Have one tour company that will do a private tour on the 24th but it is rather expensive.....sooo....we shall see. Have contact the Verrazzano winery to see if they are operating on the 24th and will provide a pick up service. We ladies are not much into walking long distances....I do appreciate everyone's help who has responded to this question. It is very helpful to hear everyone's ideas. Thanks

You could 'visit' a few wineries in the comfort of your own room...add some snacks for your very own wine tasting ;-) Good luck with your inquiries!
