Hello, I am looking for a wine tasting in Strasbourg, preferably 1/2 day only. Does anyone have a recommendation?
Strasbourg is a large metropolis (by euro standards anyway) and there aren't vineyards in town. Do you want to taste wine in town or take a tour of a nearby winery/vineyards? If the former, you can taste some excellent wine from the region at the Hospital Cellar near the old town. It's in an ancient wine cellar with hundred year old barrels to view. Visiting there won't take more than 30 min to an hour with tasting. If you want a tour outside of town, I'd consult the RS guide, he has a few recs.
Thank you Sarah. I've been trying to figure out how to book a tour and tasting at the hospital cellar, but I haven't had luck. Do you know how to do this?
I had a look on the website (www.vins-des-hospices-de-strasbourg.fr) for you but it doesn't seem to have been updated: there was a page talking about tours and tasting on 9th and 23rd June this year. I think you may have to email or phone them. When I was there a couple of years back the people on duty didn't speak much English.
No need to book a tour at all. You just show up. The "tour" such as it is of the cellar is self-guided. Then you can taste before or afterwards. The people I interacted with didn't speak much English when I was there, but we were able to make ourselves understood, and they were quite friendly. Prices for buying bottles there is surprisingly reasonable as well.
