Wine Tasting in Beaune

What vineyard would you tour that is accessible by public transport or walking from Hotel le Cep? I don't know Burgundy wines at all to say, yeah, I want to go there! Would consider a guided tour. We won't have a car.

Thanks.

Do you want a vineyard tour or a winery tour?

Bouchard Pere et Fils has a nice tour.

Their Chateau is actually a part of the ramparts of the walled city of Beaune. So you can tour the chateau, taste their wines, and then continue on to explore the town of Beaune. Make sure you visit the Hospice de Beaune.

There are several wine-tasting opportunities in Beaune.

In addition, the Cave de Pommard is only a mile to the south, along flat roads that are easy to bicycle. The bike-rental shop in Beaune can give you directions, and you'll get to see some vineyards enroute.

And to sample wines from multiple vineyards, there are the Marche aux Vins and Caves des Cordeliers in town just off of the square. Both are definitely worth visiting.

Adam and Nancy, thank you!

We'll definitely consider renting bikes!

Emily, if you are up for it by bike, there is an estate in Aloxe-Corton that serves a tasting lunch, where you get traditional Burdundian fare and a flight of wines. (Some great wines, depending on what you are willing to pay).

Aloxe-Corton is just a few miles north of Beaune.

There is also a lovely 16-mile-loop ride that goes through there which, with the lunch, was a highlight of my trip a few years ago.

Albert Bichot in Nuits St Georges has a wonderful production facility and tour. I brought a group of artists there two years ago. The tasting was great and totally unusual in this respect: at the end of the tour and tasting they gave us the rest of the open bottles to take with us! So we went into town at a restaurant, had a lunch with the rest of their great wines. I don't know if they always do that but maybe the fact that I speak French opened some doors. Anyway, the 1000 year old chateau of Gevrey Chambertin is great. So is the Clos de Vougeot. But really, you can't go wrong no matter what you choose to do and see.
