My husband and I are going on a full day Wine Safari tour in Provence with Mike Rijken . Has anyone out there taken this tour and if so, did you tip Mike at the end of the tour? Since we are paying 110 euros per person, we are not sure if tipping is expected or appropriate. We realize that tipping customs in France are very different than here in the USA so any advice would be apprecited. Thank you!
We took this tour in late May, 2012. Mike was very nice, very well informed, and was a great guide--very personable. We did tip him 10 Euros at the end of the trip. Although when we asked him earlier about the French policy of "service inclusive" at restaurants in France--he said it is always included despite what they say when asked this question--"you never need to leave a tip--only for exceptional service." But--we thought he did a great job on the all-day trip and tried to meet our site-seeing requests around the winery visits. Obviously this man knows his wine and his history of the area. A fun day!
My husband and I did the afternoon wine tour with Mike in early May. We loved it. Mike is extremely knowledgable about the wines, the vines, the grapes, the soil, everything! You can tell he truly appreciates and has a passion for the agriculture and the history of the wines.
Yes, we did tip him. We tipped him €50. He picked us up in Arles and dropped us at our hotel in Avignon after the tour.
