I have heard several references to the wind in Provence. What should we know about this...is it really something to be that concerned about? Are there certain times of year that it is more prevalent?

It's certainly nothing you can plan for so don't worry about it. If it's windy, it's windy. Look at the brigt side - the skies will be blue!

Not sure exactly when or how often it blows, but we had a dose of it last fall and we were impressed - and we're from Chicago !
