Wimbach gorge

Hi, We will be in Berchtesgaden visting the Eagles Nest and documentation center, I noticed this while looking on the web last night doing some research. Wondering if anyone has gone here and what you thought? We will have a car, is it easily reached by car? Would we be able to do the Jenner cable car, luge and see this after the Eagles Nest in one day? or am I pushing it? Thanks, Wendy

My wife and I hiked in the Wimbachklamm in 2002. Nice cool place on a hot day. We took to bus from the Hauptbahnhof to the Wimbachbrücke Haltestelle and hiked a short distance from there to the Klamm. It doesn't take very long to get there from Berchtesgaden. Take the road (Ramsauerstr. toward Ramsau). There is a collection of buildings at the Haltestelle, including a restaurant. There must be parking; other people drive. As I remember, the gorge is not all that long. The hike shouldn't take that long. We went in the lower end, hiked the length of the gorge, then hike back on a path parallel to the gorge. As for pushing it, I think so. To really see the Eagles' Nest and do it justice, and to get your €15,50s worth for the bus up to the Nest, you need half a day. We went in the morning and stayed for lunch.

Thanks Lee, We are looking for something to do/see after going to the Eagles Nest. That was an idea. We are open to anything even if its a nice drive where we can stop at towns to look around and shop, have a snack ect... we just want to see some of the countryside after being in big cites. We do want to do a luge ride though. Wendy

After having lunch at Kehlsteinhaus (Eagles' Nest), we came down and found the Dokumentation Center (www.obersalzberg.de) with it's exhibits on the Nazi takeover of Germany and the remains of the SS bunkers in the area. I found the Dok Center fascinating and spent the rest of the day there. . . . ¶ If you don't see the Dok Center, I would suggest a boat ride on Königssee. Stop at St. Bartholomä on the way, but continue on to the end of the lake at Salet and hike over the moraine to Obersee. Very scenic. BTW, when we finish at St. Barts, we went back to the boat dock where there was a very long line. Then we realize it was for returning to Schönau. There was no line for Salet. After viewing the Obersee, we came back to St. Barts, where there was still a long line, but then we were already on the boat. . . . ¶ I think the luge is close to Königssee.
